Difference between vespel SP-1 and Vespel SP-21

SP21

Vespel SP-1 and Vespel SP-21 are both high-performance Polyimide materials produced by DuPont. The main difference between the two materials is their composition and properties.

Vespel SP-1 is a standard polyimide material that is commonly used in a variety of high-temperature applications. It has excellent thermal stability, high strength, and excellent wear resistance. It can operate continuously at temperatures up to 300°C (572°F) and can withstand brief exposure to temperatures up to 482°C (900°F).

Vespel SP-21, on the other hand, is a composite material that is reinforced with graphite and PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) fibers. This reinforcement gives SP-21 improved wear resistance and lower friction compared to SP-1. SP-21 also has better dimensional stability and can operate at higher temperatures, up to 350°C (662°F).
