What are the commonalities and differences between PFA and PTFE?

What are the commonalities and differences between PFA and PTFE?

The essential difference between PFA and PTFE tubes is still in the materials they use, to distinguish between these two plastic materials is also very simple, from its appearance, PFA is translucent, PTFE is pure white opaque; and the shape of raw materials, PFA is the material granular, PTFE is powder.
In summary, PFA plastic is a copolymer of a small amount of perfluoro-propyl perfluorovinyl ether and PTFE, which is characterized by enhanced melt bonding and decreased viscosity of the solution, but no change in performance compared to PTFE. This resin can be directly processed into products using common thermoplastic molding methods, suitable for making corrosion-resistant parts, wear-resistant parts, seals, insulation parts and medical equipment parts, high-temperature wire and cable insulation, anti-corrosion equipment, sealing materials, pump and valve bushings, and chemical containers.
PFA's long-term use temperature is -196 - 260 degrees, has excellent chemical resistance, corrosion resistance to all chemicals, the lowest coefficient of friction in the plastic; at the same time there are very good electrical properties, its electrical insulation is not affected by temperature, its chemical resistance is similar to PTFE, better than vinylidene fluoride.
Also, PFA has better creep resistance and compression strength than PTFE, high tensile strength and elongation up to 100-300%. And good dielectric properties, excellent radiation resistance; flame retardant up to V0 level, the PFA tube made of it also has the above-mentioned excellent performance.

PTFE is Polytetrafluoroethylene, this material has the characteristics of acid and alkali resistance, resistance to various organic solvents, almost insoluble in all solvents. At the same time, PTFE has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, it has a very low coefficient of friction, so it can be used as a lubrication role, but also become the ideal coating for easy to clean the inner layer of water pipes.
It has been proven that PTFE can resist atmospheric aging; irradiation resistance and low permeability; long-term exposure to the atmosphere, the surface and properties remain unchanged. It is also resistant to acids and alkalis, and therefore insoluble in strong acids, bases and organic solvents. The performance of plastic pipes made of such materials should not be bad, after all, the raw materials have the above characteristics
