PCTFE material, (polytrifluoroethylene) domestic commonly known as: trifluoro, solid density 2.1 ~ 2.2, melting point 208 ~ 210 ℃. Resistant to heat, acid, alkali and organic solvents (except halides), but not resistant to molten caustic soda and elemental fluorine. Chemical resistance is very strong, can be used as engineering plastics. Tensile strength 3.096 to 4.135 MPa (316 to 422 kgf/cm2). Generally used in chemical equipment with high performance requirements, insulated cables, radio appliances, capacitors and heat or low temperature resistant fittings. With excellent rigidity, low-temperature resistance, cold flow resistance, it is an ideal sealing material for low-temperature and high-pressure working conditions, and has special uses in high-tech fields.

Although PCTFE can be melt processed, but due to the high viscosity of the melt, there is a tendency to degrade leading to the deterioration of the performance of the processed products, so the processing is difficult. PCTFE rod resin can be made into pellets for molding and extrusion. The film thickness is 0.001-0.010 inches and can be made into rods and tubes. 5.4 Will PCTFE rods react when transferring hydrofluoric acid?


No. There are many substances that do not react with hydrofluoric acid. There are many substances that do not react with hydrofluoric acid.


Hydrofluoric acid is an aqueous solution of hydrogen fluoride gas, clear, colorless, fuming corrosive liquid with a strong irritating odor. It is extremely corrosive, strongly corroding most metals, glass and objects containing silicon.


Theoretically, because of the relatively strong ability to combine hydrogen and fluorine atoms, and hydrogen bonding between hydrogen fluoride molecules in aqueous solution, so that hydrofluoric acid can not be completely ionized in water, so the low concentration of hydrofluoric acid is a weak acid, but concentrated (5 mol / L or more) will occur when the self-coupled ionization, this time, hydrofluoric acid is a very acidic acid.

However, hydrofluoric acid does not react with every substance, and if it did, what other containers could be used to hold it?


Hydrofluoric acid reacts with silicon and silicon compounds to produce gaseous silicon tetrafluoride, which can corrode glass, so it cannot be held in glass products. However, it will not corrode plastics, paraffin, lead, gold, platinum and other substances, so they are all plastic containers to hold hydrofluoric acid.
