What is polyphenylene sulfide PPS material? What are its characteristics?

pps 1

PPS|What is the material

Polyphenylene Sulfide, named Polyphenylene Sulfide in English, abbreviated PPS, its physical appearance is manifested as a white, hard polymer class, which is a special thermoplastic engineering plastic with good chemical crystallinity and excellent overall performance.

It has the advantages of high mechanical strength, high temperature resistance, chemical resistance, flame retardant, good thermal stability, good electrical properties, etc. It can be used in many complex occasions and industries.

PPS is a white powder with a density of 1.3-1.8 g/cm3 and has very good thermal properties. Its mechanical properties are enhanced by filling with glass fibers, carbon fibers, fillers, etc. The enhanced PPS has higher thermal performance index. Under prolonged working load and thermal load, the modified PPS can still maintain high mechanical properties and dimensional stability, and can be used under high temperature stress environment.

What are the features of PPS|?

PPS has a very small dielectric constant and fairly low dielectric loss, with good electrical insulation, because its surface resistance and volume resistivity is not sensitive to changes in frequency, temperature, humidity.

PPS radiation resistance is good, up to Gy1 × 108, in electronics, electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, aviation, aerospace, military, especially atomic bombs, neutron bomb field, is the most ideal choice of materials for radiation resistance. Due to the chemical structure of PPS itself is relatively stable, and contains flame retardant elements - sulfur, so PPS also has excellent flame resistance.

PPS arc resistance time is also longer, chemical stability is quite good, in addition to the erosion of strong oxidizing acids, not subject to corrosion of most acids and alkaline salts. When the temperature drops below 175 ℃ insoluble in any known organic solvents, PPS contact with common organic solvents, no cracking of plastic parts.

What are the flaws of PPS|? How can it be improved?

PPS is not modified before, the shortcomings are brittle, poor toughness, low impact strength, usually need to be used with other materials to improve performance. The market application of PPS are its modified performance varieties, such as common: glass fiber reinforced PPS, glass mineral filled PPS, carbon fiber reinforced PPS.
