Common materials for wave soldering fixtures


The commonly used materials for wave soldering fixtures mainly include synthetic stone, bakelite, metal frame and fiberglass board , and their characteristics are introduced below:


1) durostone

Durostone is a synthetic material for the bottom plate of wave soldering fixtures. At present, there are domestic and imported synthetic stones on the market. There are many types and large differences in performance. Before choosing materials, we must know more about the customer's production process and parameters. Synthetic slate has high elastic-plasticity and impact resistance, and has good corrosion resistance. The thermal conductivity of synthetic stone is very low, which ensures that the heat on the PCB is evenly distributed, and it still maintains its inherent dimensions after long-term use. The heat-resistant temperature of synthetic stone is generally between 300-350°C, and it can withstand high temperatures up to 385°C in a short period of time. It has good high-temperature resistance and ensures that it will not fade for a long time. It is often used to make high-temperature-resistant devices, and the cost is relatively high.

2) Bakelite

Bakelite has high mechanical strength, good insulation, heat resistance and corrosion resistance. Its synthesis process is simple, the price is cheap, and its comprehensive performance is good, but its mechanical processing performance is poor.

3) Metal frame

Metal materials used to make wave soldering fixtures generally include titanium alloys and aluminum. Titanium alloy has good strength and toughness, good fatigue strength and crack growth resistance. The maximum working temperature of some titanium alloys is 550°C, and a dense oxide film will be formed on the surface at high temperatures, which will not be further oxidized, and its price is relatively expensive. Aluminum plate has high strength and good toughness, its density is lighter than titanium alloy, and its machinability is very good.

4) Fiberglass board

Fiberglass board has good flatness, smooth surface, good mechanical properties and dielectric properties. It still has good mechanical strength at 150°C, can withstand high temperature of 300°C, and has good moisture resistance. It is suitable for products requiring high-performance electronic insulation. Its disadvantage is that stratification may occur after long-term use, it is not resistant to strong acids and alkalis, and its lifespan is short. Figure 1 shows the jig legends of various materials. In the process of selecting the wave soldering jig, the cost should be based on the requirements of the customer's product, the temperature of the wave soldering, the corrosiveness of the flux, and the requirements of the components on the PCB.
