Comparison of PCB solder pallet material properties for practical applications: Durostone vs. Stononlead

What is a durostone?
Durostone is a glass fiber reinforced composite material with high strength, anti-static, high temperature resistance, etc. It is mainly used in SMT reflow soldering and wave soldering processes. There are various specifications available for various conditions.

What is stononlead?

High strength, chemical corrosion resistance, anti-static, high temperature resistance, low thermal conductivity, flame retardant, etc., now widely used in electronic manufacturing welding protection materials. The ability to maintain its physical properties in an environment of gradually rising temperatures allows it to achieve high standards of results and no deformation in the wave soldering process. In harsh environments with short-term exposure to 350°C and continuous operating temperatures of 280°C, there is no separation of high-temperature composite layers. Stononlead improves the quality of PCBAs in the wave soldering process and avoids contamination of gold fingers or contact holes due to human touch.

Anti-static value after 24 hours of baking at 270℃ : Durostone vs. Stononlead

Durostone : 105~108

Stononlead : 106~109

Thin wall cutting yield:Durostone vs. Stononlead

Thin-wall yields in the cutting process affect carrier yields and line life, so the stononlead delivers better performance and longer life.

Durostone : 96.53%

Stononlead : 99.48%

Cutting dust and burr residue:Durostone vs. Stononlead

After the finished product is processed, the less cutting burrs the more productivity can be improved, as can be seen from the above figure stononlead residual rate is less, the post-treatment process is easier to handle, improve product quality;

In the cutting process, the less the amount of dust, the less the health hazards to the producer, the cutting tools and equipment caused by less maintenance costs, equipment cleaning and maintenance is easier.

Tool wear:Durostone vs. Stononlead

Below you can see a comparison of the wear of various materials after cutting.
Cutting conditions: 5000rpm
Feed rate: 900mm/min
Tool: Tungsten carbide milling cutter 3mm
Continuous cutting 90min

For the same cutting conditions, stononlead can reduce tool wear by more than 30%.

Heating deformation:Durostone vs. Stononlead

As shown in the figure below: after 80 hours of 280 ℃ (material measured temperature of 270 ℃), continuous heating process, know that the deformation of stononlead is small, material size: 500x500x3mm

Heating weight loss:Durostone vs. Stononlead

As shown in the figure below, after 80 hours of continuous heating process at 280℃, the test data shows that the weight loss of stononlead is small, and the smooth curve proves the material's high stability characteristics.
